Free Insulation Grants

Thanks to government funding schemes, you can qualify for a 100% free cavity wall and loft insulation grant to help you with the cost of insulating your home, subject to a free survey.

There is limited amount of funding available and once it’s been allocated that’s it. These grants are available on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

Cavity Wall Insulation Grants

If your home was built after 1930, most likely, its external walls are made of two layers with a gap or cavity between them. Cavity wall insulation fills that gap, keeping the warmth in your home and saving you money on your bills.

In an un-insulated home 30% of your heat is lost through the walls.

Why you need cavity wall insulation?

You may be losing 35% of your heat through your walls.

If your home was built after 1930, your external walls are likely to have a gap or cavity between them which is letting heat out.

Cavity wall insulation fills the gap – keeping the warmth in your home and saving you money on your bills.

By putting in cavity wall insulation using a government cavity wall insulation grant, you can:

  • Save about £135 a year on your heating bills (source: Energy Saving Trust)

  • Have a warmer home

  • Cut CO2 emissions

How is cavity wall insulation installed?

Cavity wall insulation is made from mineral wool, beads or granules or foamed insulants.

To insulate your cavity walls, the installation team drills small holes into the outside walls of your home.

Using specialist equipment, insulation is then injected into the cavity.

Once the insulation is in, the holes are filled in and are hardly noticeable. An average property takes about 2 to 3 hours.

Loft Insulation Grants

Insulating your loft or attic is a simple and effective way to save energy and reduce your heating bills.

In an un-insulated home 25% of your heat is lost through the roof.

Why you need loft insulation?

You may be losing 25% of your heat through your roof. By insulating your loft you will stop heat escaping and:

  • Save about £175 a year on your heating bills (source: Energy Saving Trust)

  • Have a warmer home

  • Cut CO2 emissions

  • And best of all, by getting a FREE loft insulation government grant it won’t cost you a penny.

  • Loft insulation grants also cover the cost of lagging pipework, insulating and draught proofing your loft hatch.

  • A walk-board maybe be fitted if there is a water tank situated more than 1 meter away from the hatch.

What is loft insulation?

Loft insulation is made from mineral wool and is laid out on the floor of your loft, between and across the joists.

By trapping the rising heat inside your home, it keeps your home warmer when the weather is cold.

It also stops heat coming through the roof in the summer, which means your home will stay cooler.

The recommended depth for loft insulation is 270mm.

Even if your loft is already insulated it is worth checking if you have enough insulation to get the maximum saving.

Do I qualify?

As long as you own your own home or you are a tenant living in privately rented accommodation (and you have your landlord's permission) you might be eligible for a 100% boiler grant to replace your old boiler.

What if I don't qualify?

If you aren't eligible for a 100% boiler grant there is an alternative solution and it's called the Green Deal Finance scheme.

Think of it as a loan against your home which you use to carry out approved and recommended home improvements...
